COMPANY PROFILE & HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION

JonBec Care Inc. originated 10/1/90.  JonBec Care owns and operates 16 Intermediate Care Facilities for the developmentally disabled-habilitative (ICF/DD-H), 4 Intermediate Care Facilities for the developmentally disabled-nursing (ICF/DD-N), and 1 Adult Day Health Care Center for the elderly and disabled.

These facilities are located in the cities of Yucaipa, Redlands, Calimesa, Grand Terrace, and Loma Linda.  With respect to the ICF/DD-H and ICF/DD-N facilities there are six (6) residents in each of these facilities.  These facilities are actual 3-5 bedroom homes in the community.  These facilities are 24 hour care, 365 days a year.  The uniqueness of the JonBec homes is that they can accommodate a resident in a standard to very large gurney type chair.  Each of the homes were remodeled or built from the ground up to accommodate clients in very large wheelchairs.  Ninety percent (90%) of our resident population is in a wheelchair.

The ICF/DD-H offers to the developmentally disabled person a home like environment and services in the areas of nursing care, occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavior modification, dietary services, speech therapy, recreation therapy, community and social involvement and interaction.  There is an RN and a physician on call to the facility 24 hours a day.  It has truly proven to be a successful alternative to the larger institutional settings.

The ICF/DD-N offers to the developmentally disabled person all of the same services identified above in addition to additional nursing care.  The ICF/DD-N facility can admit those clients with the following nursing needs:  G-tube feedings, colostomy/ileostomy care, oxygen administration, chronic UTI’s, severe seizures, and catheterization.  There is a LVN on site at the facility 8 hours per day and an RN available on call 24 hours per day.

It was evident to us in 1995 that our government continued to look for ways to limit the growth of Medicare and Medicaid spending.  The growth of spending on long-term care will occur primarily for community-based services.  No single provider type was the focal point of the health care delivery system.  Each was a part of an integrated provider network.  Individuals who once would have moved to nursing homes would receive services in home and community-based settings, coupled with supportive services.  As the aging population continued to grow, so did the demand for a full-range of long-term care services.  There was tremendous growth and need for services in the areas for less dependent individuals including assisted living, home care, adult day care, and respite care.  Hence, JonBec seeing the need for these new alternative care services opened the Yucaipa Adult Day Center, an Adult Day Health Care facility.  This type of facility operates Monday-Friday, 8am to 4:30pm, and services the frail elderly, Alzheimer’s, traumatic brain syndrome, and developmentally disabled.  The services offered at the center during the daytime operations include, registered nurse on site, dietary services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychological services, social, recreation, and transportation to and from the center.  This particular facility model is a great service to our community.

Our facilities are licensed and monitored by the California Department of Public Health, Licensing and Certification Division and the US Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  We are required to comply with state and federal regulations.  Our reimbursement is from the state Medi-Cal program.  We are 100% Medi-Cal funded.  In addition, the Yucaipa Adult Day Center is also monitored by the Department of Aging.

JonBec Care Inc. derived its name from the owners of the corporation, Jonathan and Becky Joseph; the first three letters of each of their first names were joined together.  Jonathan and Becky purchased ten of the facilities in 1990 from the previous corporation, which they were working for.  After the purchase, they opened an additional five (5) facilities, purchased five (5) more existing facilities from another owner, opened the Adult Day Care Center in 1995, and began a conversion  process of their ICF/DD-H facilities to ICF/DD-N’s in 2003 with successfully converting 3 facilities to the license category ICF/DD-N by 2006.  The reason behind the conversion from “H” category to “N” category was because as our own residents are aging, their medical needs become greater, therefore, requiring more nursing care.  Since 2006 there has been 1 more facility converted from ICF/DD-H to ICF/DD-N and the company continues to explore the opportunities for future conversions to the ICF/DD-N category.

Jonathan has 20 years of experience in the health care field with a master’s degree in Psychology.  Becky has been in the health care field since 1981 (27 years of experience), has a bachelors degree in business administration, and is a licensed California Nursing Home Administrator.

Jonathan and Becky  are very “hands on” owners.  Their style of management allows them to see the broad picture of their operations and control staffing, finances, and most of all, resident care.  Our residents have been with us for many, many years and are experiencing life in a new and uplifting way never before imagined.  We are able to offer so much more to them in a community based setting versus a large institutionalized setting.

The residents in our facilities are now, have always been, and will always be the first priority in this business.  They are the reason that we are here.
